About MedCheck Continuing Professional Development

MedCheckCPD and MedCheck Home Medicines Review are parts of the MedCheck Pty Ltd network, dedicated to continued professional development in Pharmacy. As health professionals, pharmacists have a fundamental ethical requirement to maintain competence throughout their careers.

  • MedCheck supports the development and practice of pharmacists as professionals, and the Quality use of Medicines.
  • MedCheck supports the general principles of professional development and practice improvement within its programs and allows Pharmacists the opportunity to achieve their CPD requirements in an efficient and professional manner.
  • MedCheck aim is to provide a range of professional development material relevant to the scope of the role of the pharmacist.

Mandatory CPD requirements

All registered pharmacists (except those holding non-practicing registration) are required to complete continuing professional development (CPD), which is relevant to their scope of practice. The Board will audit compliance with this requirement annually.

The initial requirement for CPD credits will be:

  • 20 credits for the 12 month period ending 30 September 2011
  • 30 credits for the 12 month period ending 30 September 2012
  • 40 credits for the 12 month period ending 30 September 2013.

MedCheck is dedicated to providing continued professional Development for all Pharmacists and the facilitation of lifelong learning.   This is achieved through the provision of modules, which focus on improving knowledge and/or skills.  Each module ends with a multiple-choice quiz (passing mark of 80% (8 out of 10)), in which a pharmacist will be able to demonstrate the newly acquired knowledge or skill learnt over the course of the module.   After successful completion of the module, two CPD points (Group 2) are allocated to the Pharmacist’s account.  MedCheckCPD also allows Pharmacists to access a number of leading journals, validating Group 1 points for their passive learning experience of journal reading.  This facility allows easy tracking of journal reading with 0.1 Group 1 CPD allocations to a pharmacist’s account every 6 minutes.
